GM Recalling cars with the 3800 engine. What if my car isn't listed on the recalled list?

My beater car is a 97 Riviera with the L67 engine and it wasn’t mentioned in the lists of cars that were pending a recall. Off the top of my head I can think of Park Avenues and I think LeSabres also having this engine or the non supercharged variant. Should I just expect immolation?

If it wasn’t affected, no worries.

Open the hood, look for oil seepage at the valve covers, and clean the engine bay with a good degreaser. Couldn’t hurt to carry a fire extinguisher, just in case.

Wait, what? That engine's been gone for years, and is well known as reliable. If you managed to push a 3800 into breaking, it's probably your fault. With that in mind, what actually happened?

19 minor injuries in the last 6 years... on cars over 10 years old... my guess is GM is just trying to get rid of ANYTHING that MIGHT be brought up now.

While most of those engines are similar and have interchangeable parts, small details may have been changed from year to year and platform to platform.

I wouldn’t worry.

I have a Honda Odyssey, and back during the Takata airbag fiasco I wanted to make sure mine had been repaired. I had the service rep pull the repair record and show me the part numbers on the bags they took out and the bags they put in. I suppose you could do something similar, tracking part numbers etc. just to be sure.

Since it is supposedly from oil dripping on the headers/exhaust/whatever...if the plumbing is different perhaps your oil will just drip on the ground.

I’m guess I’m just gifted that way.

Different platform, so the layout of the engine bay in your car may be different enough to keep this problem at bay.

Also, of the cars recalled, 99.9% haven't had this problem.

Even though it’s not in the literature I would definitely consider it included.

Or people could maintain their cars like, i dunno. Sensible adults. But haha, jokes aside, american has the FREEDOM to blame whoever made it first!
